studying for finals drove the residents of 353 crazy! At about 230 am, Lizzy, Maria, and I decided to make a time lapse video of us putting on as many ridiculous items of clothing as possible.

FORT WAR!!!!!
A group of us went down into the Wyckoff basement and we found a HUGE pile of old furniture from Kollen, so we decided to build forts and have a war! Our team put chairs upside down so it was like barbed wire guarding our fort. My team was Andrew, me, David, and Brett. The other team was Paul, Maria, Lizzy, Sam, and Marcus. This night was SO MUCH FUN.

Blue Boy ceremony for Marcus.
At the end of each school year, the Blue Boy (pictured here) gets passed down to a Phelps boy who will be a sophomore in Phelps the following year. We all gathered in the Pine Grove and held candles while we waited for Marcus (who was extremely late and Zack interrupted a Bible study to get him haha).

I went to Prayer House in Grand Rapids. It was my second time going, and I definitely think I want to go more often next year.
Anyways, this verse (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18) was painted on the wall and it just kept speaking to me.
"Pray continually and give thanks no matter what happens for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

It was SO NICE out this day! EVERYONE, literally everyone, was outside in the Pine Grove today. After dinner, Lizzy, Maria, and I rode our bikes down to the Leaf & Bean Coffee Shop for the Ride for Rwanda (www.therideforrwanda.org) benefit show. Afterwards, Kelly, Maria, Dan, Zack, and I went to Wendy's and had a picnic in the grass next to the parking lot. I thought this picture was a good choice for today 1) because I didn't have my camera with me when I was out in the Pine Grove, 2) none of my pictures from the benefit show came out very good, and 3) we got to have a picnic outside because it was so warm!

Marcus, David, Katie, Bre, and I went on a Road Rally! One of the things to do was have a picture with your whole team on a dinosaur, so we went to Kollen Park and rode the dinosaur! The road rally was A LOT of fun, and if you would like to see more pictures, you can check out my facebook.
There should be a picture of Feist here, but since I had to take the stupid MMTC (Michigan Test for Teacher Certification) I couldn't go :(

FUN WITHOUT ANDREW WEEKEND!
Andrew leaves Hope a lot to go home and work, and we finally thought of fun things to do without him (we usually sit around for a long time asking each other what we should do when Andrew is gone because he usually coordinates our evenings). We played frisbee golf and then went to Lemonjellos.

Maria, Lizzy, Allison, Katie, and I got dressed up and went to volunteer at a dance at the retirement home. It was awesome because old men can dance so well! I didn't actually get to dance with any old men, but it was a lot of fun watching them teach women and other Hope girls how to dance.
We met one woman named Carol (I think...I can't remember), and she taught us so many dance moves! Fox trot, waltz, etc. etc.

As part of their ministry, Street Life Ministries takes their Step Van to Tompkins Square Park in Lower East Side Manhattan to give soup, lemonade, hot chocolate, and clothing to the homeless and poor every Tuesday. When we pulled up to the park, there were people lined up for almost a block. David, who runs Street Life, has been going to this park for at least 10 years (I think it's been a lot longer than that, though). The people know and respect David, and he's gotten to know a lot of them really well. It was really neat getting the chance to stand around and talk to the homeless people in Tompkins park as they ate their soup. Some people had incredible stories to tell, and I loved getting to hear each and every one of them.

On our mission trip, we worked with a ministry called Street Life Ministries. All of the mission work they do is on the streets, and part of their ministry involves having prayer stations on the streets of NYC, mainly in Queens. Here is half of our team at one prayer station in Jamaica, Queens. At these prayer stations, we wore big red aprons so people would know we were legit, and not some crazy fanatics standing on the street corners. Our team split up into pairs, and we went to different corners. As people walked by we said "Good Morning" and if anyone stopped we asked them if we could pray for them. Even though most people did not want us to pray for them, it was awesome seeing how happy people would get when we said "hello" or "good morning" to them because they don't get that in the city.

Our team got a day off, so we went into the city. We went to Battery Park/the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Chinatown, Little Italy, Bryant Park, and Times Square. We also spent a lot of time navigating our way through the subway.
This picture was taken when our group split up, and some of us went to Little Italy. Rachel and I really wanted Cannolis, so when we found a shop that claimed to have the "Best Cannoli on Planet Earth" we had to stop and get some.
