As part of their ministry, Street Life Ministries takes their Step Van to Tompkins Square Park in Lower East Side Manhattan to give soup, lemonade, hot chocolate, and clothing to the homeless and poor every Tuesday. When we pulled up to the park, there were people lined up for almost a block. David, who runs Street Life, has been going to this park for at least 10 years (I think it's been a lot longer than that, though). The people know and respect David, and he's gotten to know a lot of them really well. It was really neat getting the chance to stand around and talk to the homeless people in Tompkins park as they ate their soup. Some people had incredible stories to tell, and I loved getting to hear each and every one of them.
